"He's here": Olympic champ shares the name of her new baby boy

<p>Reality TV personality Ryan Gallagher and Olympic swimmer Emily Seebohm have joyfully announced the birth of their first child together!</p> <p>Seebohm and her fiancé, Ryan Gallagher, known for his appearance on <em>Married At First Sight</em> (MAFS), were thrilled to introduce Sampson Ryan Seebohm to the world with the heartwarming revelation to their friends, fans and family.</p> <p>Following what Seebohm described as a "challenging" pregnancy, she expressed her desire for a distinctive yet not overly unconventional name for Sampson.</p> <p>“Obviously we didn’t want something super crazy,” Seebohm said. “But we wanted something that was going to be unique."</p> <p>Taking to Instagram, the four-time Olympian posted a simple message: "He's here."</p> <p>Gallagher also shared his excitement on his Instagram account, saying, "The past 10 days have been the most incredible of my life. "This is absurd": PM mocks bizarre Higgins conspiracy

<p>Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has denied claims Senator Katy Gallagher misled Parliament over what she knew about <a href="https://www.oversixty.com.au/news/news/lisa-wilkinson-denies-turning-to-senior-politicians-over-higgins-rape-allegations" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Brittany Higgins’ rape allegations</a>, dubbing it a “bizarre conspiracy”.</p> <p>Amid the Coalition preparing to target the Finance Minister and Labor during question time, Albanese is backing the Senator completely.</p> <p>He said the real questions were around how the Morrison Government mishandled the issue and not about how Higgins’ boyfriend tipped off Senator Gallagher.</p> <p>“This is absurd,” Albanese declared.</p> <p>“It’s a bizarre conspiracy theory – this concocted issue by what is a desperate Liberal opposition looking for any issue.</p> <p>“Katy Gallagher has been transparent.”</p> <p>The uproar follows the leaking of a six-hour audio tape that hears Higgins’ partner David Sharaz bragging to The Project that he had a connection with Senator Gallagher and in turn, she would drive the story forward in Senate estimates.</p> <p>Network Ten has lodged a police complaint over the leak after a tape of Lisa Wilkinson and Brittany Higgins was seen on a rival channel.</p> <p>Thomson Geer law firm partner Marlia Saunders, who is currently acting for Network Ten in the defamation proceedings, has confirmed she has filed a complaint to Australian Capital Territory Policing.</p> <p>Ten has complained that the material used was obtained via coercive subpoenas for the criminal trial and should have remained under wraps.</p> <p>“Last Wednesday, Ten made a complaint to the AFP requesting they investigate an apparent contempt of court,” Saunders told news.com.au.</p> <p>It relates to material produced under an AFP warrant and a subpoena issued in the ACT Supreme Court which Saunders said “appears to have been disclosed to the media in breach of the implied undertaking.”</p> <p>“The AFP yesterday confirmed the complaint has been received for consideration,” she said.</p> <p>The leaked audio tape first aired on Channel Seven during a televised interview on the Spotlight program, it has since been leaked to <em>The Daily Mail</em>,<em> The Australian</em> and <em>Sky News</em>.</p> <p>The ACT Supreme Court did not release the entire audio at the trial, but parts of it were played to the jury.</p> <p>The audio hears Wilkinson describing former Defence Minister Linda Reynolds as “a nobody” and an “idiot”, and saying “who is this f***king woman”.</p> <p>It also recorded the group war gaming the story and suggested Albanese would “definitely” raise the issue in time. Wilkinson has confirmed she never contacted him to do so.</p> <p>The leaked texts show private discussions with Wilkinson’s husband Peter Fitz-Simons regarding a $325,000 book deal and Sharaz describing then-Prime Minister Scott Morrison as a “c***t”.</p> <p>Higgins’ private text messages were provided to the police and lawyers during the criminal trials, and have since been leaked by sources unknown to media outlets.</p> <p>In the text messages, Sharaz suggested he had forwarded the entire transcript of Higgins’ interview with Lisa Wilkinson to Senator Gallagher before the story aired.</p> <p>Channel 10 were seemingly unaware that Sharaz had forwarded the transcript, which was also a signed statutory declaration, to other parties before the broadcast.</p> <p>In June 2021, Senator Gallagher was in a state of fury when the then-Defence Minister Linda Reynolds proposed she “knew where this started”, adding she had been tipped off by a Labor Senator before the story broke about what the ALP was planning.</p> <p>“No one had any knowledge. How dare you! "Yeehaaa": Olympic champ Emily Seebohm flashes engagement ring

<p><em>Married At First Sight’s</em> Ryan Gallagher has announced his engagement to Olympic swimmer Emily Seebohm.</p> <p>The news comes just three months after the couple confirmed their relationship on social media.</p> <p>Sharing the news of the engagement on Instagram, Ryan posted a picture of Emily flaunting her new ring with the caption, "Yeehaaa ❤️”.</p> <p>The post was flooded with congratulatory messages and well wishes from friends and fans.</p> <p>Ryan, 34, proposed to Emily at a dam on his farm just outside of Golbourn in NSW.</p> <p>"I thought it was the right spot to do it – she loves the horses and she often swims in the dam," he told <a href="https://www.nowtolove.com.au/celebrity/celeb-news/ryan-gallagher-emily-seebohm-engagement-76958" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Woman's Day</a>.</p> <p>"I did get nervous though. The box was making a bit of a bulge in my pocket. So either she knew I was proposing or she just thought I was happy to see her.”</p> <p>Ryan proposed to Emily with a trilogy diamond that features two small diamonds, symbolising Emma and himself, while the central diamond represents their love.</p> <p>The pair met while competing on Network 10’s The Challenge Australia in 2022, although Emily had a partner at the time.</p> <p>"Obviously it wasn't a nice call to make, but I told him what was going on and that there was something there with Ryan and I didn't see the point in wasting any more time." she said.</p> <p>The couple first went public with their relationship in December 2022.</p> <p>Emily broke the news of the engagement to followers by sharing an image of the two, paired with the caption, "Letting you in on a little secret."</p> <p>It seems as though Ryan and Emily’s chemistry is undeniable with many friends and co-stars commenting that they saw the relationship coming.</p> <p>"We all knew wasn't a secret 😜 called it after week 1," MAFS' Cyrell Paule commented.</p> <p>"I called this and honestly the most humble two people that bounce off each other .” one fan wrote.</p> <p>The pair are yet to announce a date and location for the wedding.</p> <p><em>Image credit: Instagram</em></p>

"Letting you in on a little secret": Olympic swimmer finds love

<p>Emily Seebohm has confirmed she is dating Married At First Sight star and comedian Ryan Gallagher.</p> <p>The popular swimmer and three-time Olympic champion, 30, is currently appearing alongside Gallagher on Channel 10 reality show The Challenge Australia.</p> <p>There has been lots of speculation surrounding their romance and last month Gallagher was asked on radio station 2Day FM if he was in a relationship with Emily, to which he replied: “Em is a beautiful, beautiful girl, and if there was a relationship there, I’d be very lucky”.</p> <p>Since then, the pair have made it official with simultaneous Instagram posts shared on Tuesday.</p> <p>“Letting you in on a little secret,” wrote Seebohm with an image of her and Gallagher smiling on a balcony.</p> <blockquote class="instagram-media" style="background: #FFF; Noel Gallagher admits to forgetting classic Oasis lyrics on stage

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Oasis frontman Noel Gallagher has admitted he often forgets lyrics to his classic songs while performing on stage. </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">He confessed that sometimes he has to “make s*** up” when he forgets the lyrics mid-song in front of his adoring fans. </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Noel said he stumbles over the words in the band's biggest hits, including Don’t Look Back in Anger, which spent several weeks atop the charts after its release in 1996.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">During a conversation with </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Sun</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"> newspaper, he said, </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">“Brain freeze, I get it. I get them when I’m doing gigs to 70,000 people.”</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“As the next line is coming I think, ‘Seriously, what is the next line to this song?’ You’re thinking, ‘I genuinely don’t know what it is’.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“Somehow it falls out of the sky. Gallagher brothers clash again: Siblings feud over new documentary

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Liam Gallagher’s new documentary </span><em><span style="font-weight: 400;">As It Was</span></em><span style="font-weight: 400;"> premiered, but it wasn’t without controversy.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Liam said that his ex-bandmate, brother and sworn worst enemy Noel Gallagher wouldn’t let him include </span><em><span style="font-weight: 400;">Oasis</span></em><span style="font-weight: 400;"> music in the film.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The new documentary is set to follow the “emotional story” of Liam and how he went from being at the top of </span><em><span style="font-weight: 400;">Oasis</span></em><span style="font-weight: 400;"> down to “lost in the musical wilderness of boredom, booze and bitter legal battles”.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Liam describes it as, “about my musical comeback – it covers the writing and recording of my first solo album [2017s </span><em><span style="font-weight: 400;">As We Were</span></em><span style="font-weight: 400;">, which hit #1 in the UK], right through to playing it live for the very first time in my hometown of Manchester and around the world,” according to </span><em><a href="https://musicfeeds.com.au/news/liam-gallagher-says-noel-gallagher-took-the-oasis-music-out-of-his-new-documentary-as-it-was/#OSRf6HbpWefLYwRR.99"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Music Feeds.</span></a></em></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Liam addressed fans at the premiere and said that Noel wouldn’t give him permission to use their </span><em><span style="font-weight: 400;">Oasis</span></em><span style="font-weight: 400;"> songs in the documentary.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“I think he has seen it, him and his little people [have seen] it and took the</span><em><span style="font-weight: 400;"> Oasis </span></em><span style="font-weight: 400;">music out of it because that’s all he’s got left for me. Let him get on with it.”</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“He wouldn’t let me put the tunes in, the <em>Oasis</em> songs, stuff that we did for the [Manchester One] Love thing… So he’s definitely aware of what’s going on. That’s the only last thing he’s got, to stop me singing my <em>Oasis</em> songs,” Liam said.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Director of the documentary Gavin Fitzgerald was surprised as to just how deep the feud went between the brothers. He spoke to </span><em><a href="https://www.rte.ie/entertainment/2019/0606/1053687-oasis-feud-shocked-director-of-new-liam-documentary/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">RTE</span></a></em><span style="font-weight: 400;"> about the “bitterness and seriousness” of the feud itself. </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“I was shocked to find out that Noel and Liam haven’t seen each other, haven’t even bumped into each other, since 2009 when they had a fight backstage in Paris and were swinging guitars at each other and didn’t come out to play for fans… The feud is real.”</span></p>

How the changes to super can boost your savings

<p>As of July 1, drastic new changes to superannuation will kick in, and they will affect all Australians. <a href="/finance/retirement-income/2017/04/what-you-need-to-do-ahead-of-the-july-1-superannuation-changes/" target="_blank"><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">As we outlined in April</span></strong></a>, one of the most significant changes is the new annual after-tax (non-concessional) contributions cap of $100,000, replacing the current $180,000 cap.</p> <p>However, there is a loophole in the three-year bring-forward rule, Noel Whittaker reveals. “Provided you are eligible, you can still contribute $540,000 ($180,000 a year for the next three years) even though the number will be just $100,000 a year after June 30,” he explains in the <a href="http://www.smh.com.au/money/super-and-funds/rule-changes-offer-unique-opportunities-to-maximise-your-super-20170601-gwhwgg.html" target="_blank"><em><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Sydney Morning Herald</span></strong></em></a>. This could be especially important if you have a large superannuation balance, because no non-concessional contributions will be allowed after June 30 for anyone with $1.6 million or more in super.”</p> <p>Essentially, this means if you’re in a couple where one partner has a significantly larger super balance than the other, you could withdraw as much as $540,000 from the larger balance and deposit it as a non-concessional contribution to the smaller balance.</p> <p>“This strategy has a dual benefit – it maximises the amount able to be held in the zero-tax pension environment after June 30, and converts a significant portion of the taxable component to non-taxable,” Whittaker says. “This means less death tax if the superannuation is left to a non-dependent.”</p> <p>In another big change, the current cap of $35,000 a year for over-50s for concessional contributions will drop to $25,000 a year for everybody after June 30. “If you have the funds available, and are in a situation where you can claim a tax deduction immediately, you could consider making a concessional contribution sooner rather than later,” Whittaker advises.</p> <p>“This reduction in the concessional contribution cap has huge ramifications for anybody who is salary sacrificing to the maximum. This financial year your limit is $35,000, next financial year it's $25,000.”</p> <p>However, if this is something you’re considering, you need to get in quick. Noel Neill the first actress to play Lois Lane dies at 95

What to look for in your super statement

<p>We asked Queensland University of Technology professor and personal finance expert Noel Whittaker the most important things to look out for in your super statement and he replied, “The fees, the asset allocation, and whether a binding nomination needs to be in place.”</p> <p>We’ll take you through these things now, and why it’s important to be mindful of them when you’re looking at your super statement. Being on top of these now can save you some fiscal pain later.</p> <p><strong> Fees</strong></p> <p>A superannuation statement is required to publish information on the fees you paid to the fund during the reporting period. Over the year a superannuation fund will incur a range of fees that include member fees, management or investment fees, contribution fees, adviser service fees and insurance premiums that are brought about by the running of the fund and the management of your money. It’s important to be wary of the amount of money you are dipping into your super fund.</p> <p><strong>Asset allocation</strong></p> <p>Most superannuation statements will also often provide information regarding allocation, which is pretty much telling you where your money is being put. Superannuation funds generally hedge your investment by spreading it out over international shares, fixed interest account, cash, property, infrastructure and other assets, but it’s important to know exactly where this money is going, particularly if you have aspirations to function as an ethical investor. By understanding the asset allocation of your super you know where the bottom line is and where the buck stops.</p> <p><strong>Whether binding nomination needs to be in place</strong></p> <p>Speaking very broadly, today in Australia the Legal System separates individual’s personal assets from their super. Upon someone’s death personal assets will be pooled in the Estate the Executor named in your Will distributes them. However, superannuation savings can be directed straight to a beneficiary and bypass the estate. It’s important to note that a binding death benefit instructs superannuation funds where to make the final death benefit payment after you die. In many cases this is only valid a few years at a time, so if you feel as though you would like your superannuation payment to go to someone in particular the onus is on you to change it and keep it up to date. </p> <p><strong>Conclusion</strong> </p> <p>Superannuation can be a difficult thing to get your head around. But in the end of the day it isn’t rocket science and as long as you’re cautious and conscientious of your investment decisions then you should be able to scrape through unscathed.
